Elijah

A story of epic proportions! Experience this popular and dramatic oratorio which portrays a miraculous rising from the dead, a man fed by ravens, a fire-lighting competition between rival gods, a hero who can instruct the Almighty in His timing of weather events and who is finally swept up into heaven on a chariot of fire.

Perhaps it asks a lot from a 21st century audience, but of course Elijah is much more than a dramatic story.  It’s part of a people’s history of themselves, it’s about faith and our struggle to work out how we should live our lives, all filtered through the great drama that is Hebrew literature, brought alive by Mendelssohn’s wonderful music.

Bearsden Choir is joined by a stellar cast and the fabulous McOpera Ensemble for an evening of joyful and exciting music which we hope you will enjoy.

SATURDAY afternoon belonged to George Swann, it is safe to say, and not just because Mozart and Michael Tippett are no longer with us – nor because the young composer’s peer-group fan club were vociferously present at Glasgow City Halls. The Glasgow University...
